A power module or power electronic module provides the physical containment for several power components, usually semiconductor devices. Power modules are high power switching control circuits that contain various other components that make up an isolated unit. Power modules are mechanically and thermally optimised for ease of assembly, reliability and extended life expectancy. Typically these modules have a base plate for mounting heat sinks and electrical contacts for easy installation or removal. The design and manufacture of power modules allows improved power handling and decreased parasitic circuit elements.
